About the event
What’s school life without a little fun and spirited competition?
For ages, education has not only manifested itself in textbooks and tough lessons, but it has also found fulfilment in worldly explorations and character-building activities. Keeping this fact in mind, on the 13th and 14th of October 2025, St. John’s Diocesan Girls’ Higher Secondary School organised Dio Spectra 2025, its very own interschool fest, aiming to celebrate natural talents among young students, with wholehearted participation from 28 schools across Kolkata.
The fest started off with its grand inaugural ceremony, graced by the presence of Rt. Revd. Dr. Paritosh Canning, Bishop of Calcutta, who set the tone for the competition with his words of affection and encouragement. The ceremony also received a unique touch through a series of thrilling chemical experiments performed by the talented Diocenas that once again proved “Science is Beauty, and Beauty, Science.”
The fest featured a wide variety of events that showcased a vast spectrum of knowledge, skill and collaborative success. On the first day, the following events took place–
- “Strokes” (Painting competition)
- “Spell-a-thon” (Spelling quiz)
- “Maatir Taane” (Eastern Music)
- “Verse Unplugged” (Elocution with music) •”Nutrified” (Fusion cooking contest)
These diverse events tested the participants’ skills and originality.
The unmatched enthusiasm continued on the second and final day of the fest, which featured the events–
- “Rise to the Rim” (Basketball)
- “Jhankaar” (Fusion dance)
- “Magic Melody”(Western Music)
- “Spotlight” (One Act Play)
- “Make it Right” (Model-making contest)
The vibrant display of ideas and skills presented by the participants turned this occasion into a brilliant extravaganza, bustling with hope, energy and camaraderie.
The final day of the fest concluded with an equally zealous closing ceremony, held in the school’s Basketball Court. Following a mesmerizing musical performance by renowned singer Shrijit Das, the much-anticipated Prize Distribution Ceremony took place with great pomp–where young talents were justly rewarded for their talent and hardwork. After a tough competition, Dio ultimately claimed the Champions’ Trophy, emerging as the overall Winner of the fest.
More than just a competition, the fest also provided space for meaningful exchange between students from different schools and backgrounds, thus helping them to extend their reach far beyond familiar bonds. While some students called it a “fun rivalry”, others stated that it was a “thoughtful initiative to nurture young minds”. The occasion also received praise from chief guests and invited judges for its flawless organization.
Overall, Dio Spectra 2025 stands as a golden chapter in Dio’s eventful history, aiming to foster the ideals of teamwork and perseverance in young minds, and fulfilling its motto “Illuminating Minds, Igniting Possibilities.”
